Car rides can feel chaotic or boring—but they’re also the perfect place to reset and refocus. In this activity, you’ll guide your child through calming breaths paired with simple Bible verses or breath prayers. It helps reduce stress, refocus the heart, and remind your child that God is always near.
Step 1
Step 1
Slow Your Breath
Say: Let’s take a calm moment together. We’re going to breathe in God’s peace, and breathe out our worries.
Lead your child in slow breathing:
Do this 3–4 times together.
Step 2
Step 2
Add a Verse or Breath Prayer
Now pair each breath with a short verse or prayer. Speak slowly and clearly as they breathe.
Examples:
Inhale: “God is with me…”
Exhale: “…I am not afraid.” (Inspired by Joshua 1:9)
Inhale: “The Lord is my shepherd…”
Exhale: “…I have all I need.” (Psalm 23:1)
Inhale: “Jesus, give me peace…”
Exhale: “…Help my heart rest.”
Let your child pick a favorite or repeat the same one several times.
Step 3
Step 3
Reflect and Pray
Say: That was really good breathing! Do you feel a little more peaceful now? Even when things feel fast or noisy, God can help us feel calm inside.
Ask:
Say: Thank You, God, for always being with us. You calm our hearts when we’re nervous or overwhelmed. Help us to remember Your promises and breathe in Your peace.
Share the hope of God’s Word and pray together with your child.
Scripture Verse
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.”
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for helping us breathe deeply and feel calm. Remind us that You are always close. Help us trust You when we feel big emotions. In Your name, amen.
