Waiting can be hard, but it’s also the perfect time to practice patience and learn to be still. In this activity, you’ll play a simple waiting game that helps your child focus on the present moment and recognize that even when things feel slow, God is still with us. Whether you’re stuck in a waiting room, standing in line, or waiting for a turn, you’ll practice turning those moments into opportunities for peace.

Step 1

Step 1

The Patience Challenge

Wherever you are—sitting in a waiting room, standing in line, or even waiting for something at home—

Say: Let’s play a game while we wait! The Patience Challenge. We have to see how still and quiet we can be for 30 seconds—without moving or making a sound. Ready?

You can either use a timer or just count down in your head. After 30 seconds, celebrate:

Say: Wow, you did great! That was a long time to stay still, wasn’t it? You were super patient!

Step 2

Step 2

Practice Patience with a Twist

Now, make it a little more fun by turning the waiting time into a sensory game.

Say:
Let’s see if we can practice being patient in a different way now! While we wait, let’s notice the things around us. Can you find something soft? Can you find something that’s the color blue? What about something that makes a sound?

Let your child answer and encourage them to look around and describe what they see. This turns waiting into a more engaging game.

Step 3

Step 3

Patience and God’s Timing

Once you’ve played for a little while, take a moment to reflect on your patience.

Say: Even when we’re waiting, we can trust that God is with us, helping us be patient. He knows the best time for everything, and while we wait, He’s teaching us to trust His timing.

Ask:

  • What’s something you’re waiting for right now?
  • How do you feel when you have to wait for something?
  • Do you think God has a good plan for when things happen, even if we don’t always understand it?

We’ve all still got lots of growing to do, and God isn’t finished with any of us yet.

He’s still busy writing your story — a story of hope, love, and purpose. What an exciting future to look forward to@

Lead your child in a moment of praise. Celebrate and thank God for His faithfulness and everlasting love.

Step 4

Step 4

Patience and God’s Timing

Say: You did an amazing job being patient today! God helps us be patient, even when we feel like waiting is hard. He is always with us, no matter how long we wait.

Share the hope of God’s Word and pray together with your child.

Scripture Verse

“But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.”

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for being with us while we wait. Help us be patient and trust that You have a plan. We know that Your timing is always perfect. In Jesus’ name, amen.
